LEAH LIN
Leah Lin began her career as a proud elementary school teacher at PS85Q, The Judge Charles Vallone School, in 2014. Teaching in the same Queens community where she grew up, Leah quickly became a trusted advocate for students and educators alike. In 2018, she took on the role of UFT Chapter Leader at her school, where she developed her skills in union leadership, advocating for better working conditions, and ensuring that educators’ voices were heard.
Currently, Leah works out of the Queens Borough office, where she has served as a preliminary pension consultant and now contributes content for the UFT’s social media page. Her work focuses on educating and empowering members by sharing valuable information about contractual rights and union resources. Leah’s Instagram platform (@the_Leah_Lin) has become a trusted source for UFT members seeking guidance on how to advocate for themselves effectively.
Leah’s dedication to her community extends beyond the classroom. She participated in a fellowship program for community organizing with her local Councilwoman (District 22), deepening her understanding of community advocacy and grassroots leadership. Through this experience, she strengthened her ability to connect with educators, parents, and community members to build lasting support for public education.
As Vice President of Elementary Education, Leah aims to enhance communication, collaboration, and support for elementary educators. She is committed to working closely with school staff to address their concerns, improve classroom conditions, and ensure that elementary educators have a meaningful voice in all major union decisions. Leah believes that empowering educators with knowledge and resources not only strengthens the union but also creates a more positive learning environment for students.
Leah is dedicated to advocating for professional autonomy and supporting educators in reclaiming their right to teach with creativity and freedom. She envisions a union where all members feel valued, heard, and equipped to succeed. Through her leadership, Leah strives to build a stronger, more resilient UFT that champions the needs of educators, students, and the broader school community.
