Racquel is a dedicated educator with over two decades of experience in New York City public schools. She began her teaching career in 2002 as a middle school math teacher in the Bronx and, since 2010, has been a committed member of the faculty at Rockaway Park High School for Environmental Sustainability. Her career is marked by a steadfast dedication to advocating for professional respect, equity in education, and creating a supportive learning environment where both educators and students can thrive.

Racquel has served as a UFT Chapter Leader for the past nine years, demonstrating her leadership and advocacy within the union. Her involvement extends to participating as a member of the UFT Delegate Assembly, serving as a delegate to NYSUT/AFT, and contributing her expertise as a borough office summer staffer. Her outstanding contributions to her school community and the union have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the 2022 Ely Trachtenberg Award and the 2024 Queens High School President’s Council Award, both honoring her exceptional union organizing skills and her positive impact on the school community.

As both a classroom teacher and a parent of two NYC public school students, Racquel brings a unique perspective to her role. She understands firsthand the critical importance of incorporating teacher input into curriculum design and selection and is deeply committed to ensuring authentic teacher voices are heard in all major decisions. Her approach is rooted in building genuine partnerships and fostering collaboration to make meaningful and lasting changes in education.

Racquel is running for Vice President of Education as part of A Better Contract because she believes in the power of a member-driven union that prioritizes collaboration, transparency, and real change. She is passionate about creating an educational environment where teachers feel valued and supported, and where students receive the equitable education they deserve. Through her leadership, Racquel aims to strengthen the union’s advocacy, empower educators, and enhance the quality of education across New York City public schools.
